Evening will include tribute to Churdan, Paton-Churdan girls state qualifying teams
Scranton All School alumni, Scranton Betterment and the city of Scranton are combining their efforts to host an evening of food and fun on Saturday, March 25. The event will utilize the Scranton Community Center (formerly the school building).
The Betterment volunteers are cooking up their favorite soups as a fundraiser, served from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. A free will donation will be collected for the meal and as admission to the game.
Carry-outs and deliveries are available locally. To request delivery service, call 712-652-3344.
The Town and Country Band will perform throughout the evening. The musicians, both young and “experienced,” play the songs you know and enjoy.
A highlight of their performance is the Scranton Trojan Fight Song. It always brings the fans to their feet.
The basketball game will tip off at 6:30 pm. The contest will feature the “old fashioned” game of six-on-six basketball where the girls are limited to two dribbles in the half court, with forwards challenging the guards to score.
Women from around Greene County from the generation who played six-on-six will challenge the younger generation of basketball players. Students at Iowa State University who hail from Greene County (former Rockets and Rams) will take the court against their more “experienced” counterparts.
A special tribute is planned to honor the girls state qualifying teams from neighboring (and rival) Churdan and Paton-Churdan High School. The Churdan teams from 1949, 1951, 1952 and Paton-Churdan 1967 have been invited and will be recognized.
“Scranton is the place to be Saturday evening. Meet your friends and enjoy an evening of old-fashioned fun,” a Betterment spokesperson said.
